The Co-Op School contains a large recreation room on its ground floor. It is over 1200 square feet and contains an adjoining full size kitchen. The space is great for luncheons, conferences, readings, performances, children’s birthday parties and other events. Where is the School and how do I get there? The School is located at 81-87 Irving Place between Putnam and Fulton Avenues. You can take the B26 or B25 to the location or the C train to either the Clinton-Washington or Franklin Avenue stop.
How many guests can I invite? The main room on the ground floor of the School (the “Main Room”) is over 1200 square feet and can comfortably accommodate a number of people. We recommend a maximum of 100 people in the space.
What exactly am I renting? Rental is for use of the Main Room on the ground floor of the School, the adjoining kitchen and a small room which adjoins the kitchen which can be used for set-up and supplies. The adjoining kitchen is a full kitchen, equipped with two refrigerators, a stove and operating dish washer. There are plastic serving trays for party use. We ask that you do not consume any food that is in the pantries or refrigerators – those are for School use only.
How much will it cost me to rent the space? The space rental rate is $125 an hour, which includes the cost of a School staff member or other representative who will be available on site during the event. When booking your event please include the set-up/break-down time needed for your event. Any additional time used is billed at a rate of $125 per hour. We rent the space for events on Saturdays and Sundays. So you may choose any time period that you like between the hours of 9:00 AM and 9:00 PM.
Are any additional costs involved? We require an additional $100 security deposit to be submitted along with the Rental Agreement, both of which are due upon signing of the rental agreement. Please supply this as cash, certified check or money order --separate from the rental fee payment. The deposit will be returned to you within one week of renting the space provided the School is left in the condition found.
Payment for the event is due no later than 4PM on the business day immediately preceding the event. Overtime payment is due before the renter departs the site.
We charge a fee of $50 if the rental is cancelled with at least 3 days’ notice and $100 if cancelled with less than 3 days’ notice.
What do you supply besides the facilities? There are small children's tables and chairs and large folding tables for adults. There are 60 adult size chairs included. There is a stereo system available for any music you wish to bring.
Will I be required to clean up? Renters must clean up after themselves. Cleaning supplies can be found under the sink in the kitchen. Please leave the place as you found it. If you do not clean properly, your rental deposit will be used towards a cleaning service.
Can I have food or decorations delivered to the School? You may have your event catered; however caterers must be pre-approved by the School. A certificate of insurance from the caterer, which lists the School as coinsured, must be on file with the School before the event.
The renter will be responsible for arranging caterers, a clean-up crew, and any other contractors (such as servers and florists), and for renting linen, tables, and chairs.
No barbecuing or other open fires are permitted at the School.
Supplies and portable furniture for special events may only be delivered at a time pre-arranged with the School prior to the event, and must be retrieved immediately following the event. The School is not liable for the delivered or stored property. A certificate of insurance from the rental company, listing the School as coinsured, must be on file with the School before the event.
Can I serve liquor? Serving liquor is permitted provided that it is in accordance with all applicable laws (e.g., alcohol may not be served to anyone under the age of 21). Liquor may not be sold unless you obtain a cabaret license for the event.
Can I decorate the space? You will be permitted to decorate the Main Room, but decorations which may damage any part of the structure (including the use of nails, screws, staples, or tape on any floor, wall, window, window sill, door, or ceiling) are prohibited.
Flowers and other free-standing arrangements are permitted provided that their placement does not conflict with any fire code or other applicable regulations.
Candles with an open flame, and any other open fires are not permitted.
Can I or my guests smoke at the event? Smoking is not permitted in the building.
What am I responsible for? The renter will be responsible for all costs incurred by the School for repair of any and all damage to the structure or collection associated with the rental. The School may determine in its sole discretion whether repairs will be necessary, and all repairs will be made by individuals chosen by the School. The School has the right to discontinue an event at any time for any reason deemed necessary.
We do not guarantee that our facilities are appropriate for all purposes and so you are advised to inspect the facilities for suitability before submitting an application.
The renter is responsible for any damage or loss to the School property, and for any personal injury to his or her invitees occurring as a result of or due to this event, except if arising out of the gross negligence or willful misconduct of the School or its agents or out of a pre-existing condition in the structure of the School.
